Some residents are having their patience tested as Beijing carries out repeated COVID-19 tests. The move is part of clamping down, in terms of restrictions, ahead of the Winter Olympics which begin on February 4. The capital of China reported 14 new cases locally, in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of cases in the city to 50. While Beijing is on especially high alert due to the upcoming Olympic games, China has stuck to a zero-COVID approach where any small outbreak is snuffed out with mass testing, travel restrictions, and lockdowns. While this policy has kept the number of active cases and deaths low in the country, it is difficult for governments to exit the strategy.
