The members of the environmental protest organization “Just Stop Oil” disrupted a production of “Les Misérables” in London’s West End by storming the stage. Protesters pleaded with the crowd to support their cause amid the commotion. Five activists were detained as a result of the call for police to the location.

The incident happened during the well-known song “One Day More,” which led to the cast being removed off stage and the theater being evacuated, ultimately leaving the performance unfinished. The audience showed their displeasure by booing the demonstrators, some of whom carried orange banners bearing the Just Stop Oil logo.

The group released a statement after the incident. The statement read, “During the first half of our performance of “Les Misérables”, individuals from Just Stop Oil invaded the stage, abruptly stopping the show. Following our safety protocols, the audience were asked to leave the auditorium and the Met Police attended. Regrettably, there was insufficient time to enable us to complete the rest of the performance. Whilst we recognize the importance of free expression, we must also respect our audience’s right to enjoy the event for which they have paid.”
