Manchester City players Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte tested positive for coronavirus, the Premier League club announced on Monday.

The club from Manchester coached by Pep Guardiola, who finished second in the Premier League, issued a statement on Twitter, saying, “Both players are currently observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine. Neither is displaying symptoms of the virus.”

The club added that everyone associated with them, wished the duo a speedy recovery ahead of their return to the Premier League season.

The English Premier League (EPL) season is scheduled to start from September 12.

The club signed center-back Nathan Ake from Bournemouth and right-winger Ferran Torres from Valencia this transfer window.

The Premier League club is all set to challenger current EPL champions Liverpool, after winning a solitary silverware in the form of the League Cup last season.

Mahrez and Laporte have played 70 games last season with the former assuming the role of an attacking midfielder and the latter playing a defensive role. 

Mahrez scored 13 goals from his 50 appearances at the club last season while Laporte who was purchased for 57 million pounds has made 86 appearances since being purchased in 2018.
