Protesters cited the recent massacre at Gaza’s Baptist Hospital as the reason for their activities. The situation in the Middle East has deteriorated, with former Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal calling for worldwide protests in front of Israeli embassies in the aftermath of an attack on a Gaza hospital that resulted in the deaths of dozens Palestinians.

This incident is a part of a broader context of escalating violence across the Middle East. An Israeli airstrike reportedly killed over 300 people at a Gaza City hospital, as reported by authorities in the Palestinian enclave. The United Nations also confirmed that an Israeli strike hit one of its schools being used as a shelter.

The Gaza Health Ministry source reported that at least 500 people were killed in these attacks. Both the hospital and the school are under the control of the Hamas-run government.

Israel’s military has stated that it is still gathering details regarding these reports of strikes on the hospital and the school. The health authorities in Gaza have reported that at least 3,000 people have been killed during Israel’s intense 11-day bombardment, which began following Hamas militants’ incursion into Israeli towns on October 7, resulting in the deaths of more than 1,300 soldiers and civilians.

These developments coincide with the upcoming visit of U.S. President Joe Biden to Israel, scheduled for Wednesday, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit on Tuesday.

The international community has expressed strong condemnation of the attacks. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau emphasized that hitting a hospital is unacceptable, while Egypt denounced the attack in the strongest terms.

Video footage obtained by Reuters shows ambulances arriving at another Gaza hospital, transporting individuals injured in the Al-Ahli al-Arabi hospital attack. The situation remains dire, with many injured and displaced people requiring immediate assistance.

The United Nations Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA also reported that an Israeli airstrike killed at least six people after hitting one of its schools, which was serving as a shelter for displaced individuals. The strike caused severe structural damage to the school, where at least 4,000 people were seeking refuge.

Hamas has described the hospital blast as mainly affecting displaced people, while a senior official of the internationally recognized Palestinian Authority operating in the West Bank, though not in Gaza, has referred to it as a massacre.
