The fourth episode of Loki “Nexus Event” has left some unanswered questions heading straight into the next episode. Featuring the first post-credits scene of the series, one of the most intriguing question in episode 4 was %u2013 what caused the Nexus Event (a separate timeline off the sacred timeline)? Was it due to Sylvie and Loki touching on Lamentis-1? Well, we have some theories which might answer this question

According to the Disney+ series, Nexus Events are moments in the sacred timeline when branch realities are created. In other words, they are events caused by variants breaking off from the path set forth by the TVA’s Time Keepers, who guard over the Sacred Timeline and which threaten to throw reality into chaos.

In episode 4 of Loki episode, Mobius believed it was Loki and Sylvie touching on the moon of Lamentis-1 that caused a new nexus event, but that is certainly not the actual cause behind the Nexus Event. In the previous episode, the duo was trapped on a moon (Lamentis-1) and were destined to die. But then the Time Variance Authority (TVA) appeared to apprehend them and haul them through a time door.

It was confusing as to how the TVA found them as Sylvie and Loki were hiding out in an apocalypse and Loki had previously explained that a variant’s energy would not show up in an apocalyptic event. However, they apparently created a Nexus Event. The scene was designed to make it appear that when Sylvie and Loki touched and then clasped hands, that is what triggered the TVA’s alarms. %u201CTwo variants of the same being, especially you, forming this kind of sick, twisted romantic relationship? That’s pure chaos! That could break reality,%u201D said Mobius.

So, it’s not Loki and Sylvie touching, nor even them developing potential feelings for one another that triggered the nexus event, but what it means: they are no longer alone. According to MCU’s Loki theory, Loki is supposed to exist as he’s the Sacred Timeline Loki and all other Lokis are merely variants. Also, Loki is meant to fulfill one specific role in the timeline %u2013 to cause pain, death, and destruction.

However, in finding Sylvie, Loki changed his entire reason for existence without warning and wrecked the plans of the TVA, apparently. Loki was designated to feel completely isolated, alone, and, what’s more, to believe he deserves it. But meeting Sylvie has, for the first time in his life, offered Loki a genuine connection with someone. Seemingly, Loki will relinquish the character of a cruel villain as not he has a glimmer of hope.

That certainly ruined the TVA’s plans. No matter what timeline Lokis are in, they are still Gods and Goddesses of Mischief. This clearly indicates that ‘no longer feeling alone is a nexus event’.
