Uros B has been identified as the Mladenovac, Serbia mass shooting suspect, Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic said. Special forces are hunting the gunman who killed at least eight people and wounded 13 others on Thursday night.

The incident took place at 11 PM on Thursday in the village of Dubona in Mladenovac. The municipality is south of the city of Belgrade. As per public broadcaster RTS, Uros B had an automatic weapon. He fled the scene later. He is 21 years old.

Gasic described the mass shooting as a “terrorist act”, Serbian news portal Telegraf reported.

“The perpetrator is on the run, and all available patrols have been sent in the direction of Mladenovac and Mali Požarevac,” N1 reported. News agency AFP said confirmed that there was a heavy police presence and numerous ambulances rushed to the scene, while helicopters were flying over the area.

RTS reported that about 600 Serbian policemen, including ones from the Special Antiterrorist Unit (SAJ) and Gendarmerie, launched a manhunt. The operation is dubbed as Operation Whirlwind.

“It is pitch black here, we are looking for him in this area, taking all precautions, an assault rifle is a serious threat,” a police officer involved in the manhunt said, as per Reuters.

Only earlier the week, Serbia witnessed a school shooting. The suspect, who Opoyi will not name, is a 13-year-old. He killed eight students and a security guard at the Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school in Belgrade.

Six students and a teacher were left wounded. Health officials said that two remain in critical condition.

Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs in a statement on Facebook said that it was informed at 8:40 AM (local time) about a school shooting in Vračar.

The student has been identified as a seventh-grade student. He opened fire from his father’s weapon.

“We have had too much violence for too long,” psychologist Zarko Trebjesanin told N1.
