After tens of thousands of people gathered in downtown Manhattan for Kai Cenat‘s PS5 giveaway, shocking images and videos started to circulate online. As the crowd descended into chaos, people began to fight and throw harmful objects at one another. Another viral video showed fans irrationally smashing a car that was parked on the street. One fan even climbed on top of the car and danced as others broke the windscreen.

After Cenat announced on social media, where he has more than 10 million followers and subscribers, that he would be giving away 300 PlayStations, people started to gather at Manhattan Union Square around one o’clock local time.

By 3 o’clock, a large crowd had gathered on the streets near one of New York’s busiest subway stops.
They assaulted the responding police by scaling cars and the top of the train station entrance. A “level four” mobilization was proclaimed by the New York Police Department, which meant that some 1,000 officers had been sent to the area.

Fireworks were let off, bottles and other objects were hurled at police officers, and the area’s traffic became backed up as the situation swiftly got out of hand. The NYPD struggled to control the brash crowd while using all of its available resources. One 17-year-old was taken to the hospital after being hit by fireworks debris while the area was in chaos, Chief Maddrey disclosed.

By 5:30 p.m., the police had mostly taken over the area, but there were still isolated clashes. Some of the attendees fought back against the officers, toppling barricades, throwing bottles, and assaulting them with other things.

Police also arrested Cenat because the event was illegal and not authorized by New York City. The gathering turned aggressive and out of control, leading to the arrest of 35 adults and 30 juveniles. The New York City Police Department (NYPD) later confirmed that Kai Cenat was charged with inciting a riot, rioting, and unlawful assembly.
