Salma Khatun (born 1 October 1990) is a Bangladeshi cricketer who plays for the Bangladesh cricket team. She bats right-handed and bowls right-arm off-break. Between 2008 and 2020, she captained Bangladesh, including the inaugural One Day International and Twenty20 International.
Salma Khatun was born on October 1, 1990, in Khulna, Bangladesh. In Khulna, she first began playing cricket with the guys. Imtiaz Hossain Pilu was her coach.
In 2010, the Bangladesh women’s team won a historic silver medal in the Asian Games Women’s Cricket competition, defeating China’s national women’s cricket team. She was a member of the Asian Games team in Guangzhou, China.
On August 28, 2012, Salma made her T20I debut against Ireland. She was a member of Bangladesh’s side that won their first-ever Women’s Asia Cup title in June 2018, winning the 2018 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup event. Later that month, she was named Bangladesh’s captain for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier event.
She was selected captain of Bangladesh’s side for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 competition in the West Indies in October 2018. She was Bangladesh’s joint-leading wicket-taker in the tournament, with six dismissals in four games.
She was selected captain of Bangladesh’s squad for the 2019 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier event in Scotland in August 2019. In November 2019, she was selected captain of Bangladesh’s squad for the 2019 South Asian Games cricket event. In the final, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by two runs to earn the gold medal.
She was chosen captain of Bangladesh’s side for the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia in January 2020. She was Bangladesh’s best wicket-taker in the tournament, with six dismissals in four games.
She was nominated to Bangladesh’s team for the 2021 Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier competition in Zimbabwe in November 2021. She was nominated to Bangladesh’s team for the 2022 Commonwealth Games Cricket Qualifier competition in Malaysia in January 2022. She was picked to Bangladesh’s team for the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand later that month.
