Hilarious reactions and memes flooded Twitter after the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday announced new board exams assessment guidelines for classes 10 and 12. The exams will now on be conducted twice a year — first term in November-December and the second in March-April.

As schools continue to remain shut due to the prevailing COVID situation, the CBSE has issued assessment guidelines, which include assessments twice a year. The first one, in November-December, will consist of 90-minute multiple-choice questions (MCQs)-based paper. The second one, in March-April, will consist of a two-hour-long paper in which questions will be from across formats. 

The syllabus will be reduced and schools will conduct continuous internal assessments.

If schools are shut in November-December, the exams will be conducted online and will carry less weightage. If the same situation happens in March-April, more weightage will be given to the scores in the first and the internal assessments. If both the assessments are conducted at home, then the final result will be based on the scores in internal assessment, projects and practical work, along with both term-end examinations.

This comes as uncertainty loomed over the board exams 2020-21 due to the second wave of COVID-19. Class 10 exams were cancelled and those for class 12 were initially postponed, before being called off.

Starting in April, India was severely battered by the second COVID wave that claimed thousands of lives. Board exams across states and boards were either cancelled or were conducted in a way to ensure the protection of students, teachers and the staff.
