The South Indian film industry has taken all over Indian cinema with big releases like ‘RRR’ and ‘KGF 2’. 

While both the films continue to shatter records and break expectations, a few Indian actors have little good to say about the recent trends in cinema and viewership, including Nawazuddin Siddiqui. 

In a recent interview with NDTV, the ‘Sacred Games’ star said that he had high hopes for film viewers, who spent two years without theatre screenings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

 “I felt the audience will mature after the pandemic and lockdown because they would have seen good international cinema. Change has come but it’s for the worse,” he told NDTV. 

The Hindi version of ‘KGF 2’, which also stars Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon, has crossed the Rs. 343 crore mark in 15 days of its release and has surpassed the records of Bollywood blockbusters like ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, ‘PK’ and ‘Sanju’.

On the other hand, ‘RRR’, which features Alia Bhatt, recently crossed the Rs. 1000 crore mark. Its Hindi version has earned Rs. 262 crore at the box office. 

The massive success of South Indian films has impacted commercial Bollywood movies, such as Shahid Kapoor-starrer ‘Jersey’, which managed to earn merely Rs. 15.5 crore in four days of its release. 

Siddiqui added that one should not confuse box office records of a film with its storyline. 

 “When a film does well everyone joins in and praises it even more, if a film doesn’t collect good money people criticize it more. This is like fashion, now if a Bollywood film becomes a big hit then all these talks will change. I think this is just a trend,” he explained. 

The 47-year-old actor stars in ‘Heropanti 2’, which hit theatres today. 

“Yes, I have also done a commercial film. Hope people go and watch this one also and we rake in lots of money,” he concluded.
