Andrew McDonald will be ready for his first outing as head coach as Australia tour Sri Lanka for 3 T20Is, 5 ODIs, and 2 Test matches in June and July 2022. A total of 34 players were named on Friday for the all-format matches. Star players David Warner, Steve Smith, Matthew Wade, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc are back in the white-ball squad after missing the recent series in Pakistan.
Leg-spinner Adam Zampa will be missing the entire series due to the impending birth of his first child. Pat Cummins, who will be leading the side in Tests, will sit out the T20 matches. Marcus Harris was not named in the 16-man test squad.
Australia A will play four Tests in Hambantota from June 8 to June 24.
“It’s incredibly exciting to have an Australia A component which offers the further flexibility and opportunity for players to be available for and cross over into all squads,” said selection chief George Bailey.
“That could be from a test or white-ball preparation perspective or an opportunity to impress at an international level.”
