The new Marilyn Monroe film Blonde has arrived on Netflix, and it suggests Monroe, Eddie Robinson Jr and Cass Chaplin were in a three-way relationship. 

While the film is a traditional biopic of Monroe, it’s actually based on a historical fiction novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates.

The theme of bond is the hypersexualization of Marilyn Monroe, who was born Norma Jeane Mortenson. There are several partners Monroe has in the film, such as baseballer Joe DiMaggio or playwright Arthur Miller, but the most surprising of them all is when she is seen seemingly in a three-way couple with Cass Chaplin and Edward G. Robinson Jr.

While the film suggests that Marilyn was in a romantic throuple with the two men, this is not based on fact. However, there is some evidence to suggest that Marilyn and Chaplin were briefly involved with each other.

In Anthony Summers’ biography of Monroe, titled Goddess: The Secret Lives of Marilyn Monroe, it is stated that she and Chaplin did indeed have a relationship.

In Blonde, Chaplin dies before Monroe, but in real life, Monroe died six years before the former passed away due to pulmonary embolism.

Summers also says that Marilyn and Eddy met through Cass, but they only dated for a short time (and not at the same time). Things started heating up between them while she was filming Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Robinson Jr was just 19 years old at the time, while Marilyn was around 27, according to RadioTimes.

Despite how Blonde portrays their relationships, there’s nothing to suggest Monroe, Robinson Jr and Chaplin were in a three-way relationship.
