The Kansas City Chiefs registered a memorable comeback win in Monday Night Football on October 10, as they beat the Las Vegas Raiders 30-29. The hosts began the game underwhelmingly, failing to score their first points in the first quarter and trailing 10-20 at halftime.

However, a Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes-inspired display helped the Chiefs to make a comeback in the third and fourth quarters, winning the game 30-29. Let’s take a look at the highlights from the game.

Travis Kelce’s best career numbers

The Kansas City Chiefs did not begin the game on a strong note and trailed 10-20 at halftime. It was tight end Travis Kelce who inspired the Chiefs to make a comeback, starting from the third quarter and the victory later.

Kelce scored 4 receiving touchdowns in the game and became the first tight end to score as many in a game in the NFL since 1985. He also became the fourth tight end to score 4 touchdowns in a single NFL game and surpassed his tally from the last four weeks (3) against the Raiders.

Mahomes-led comeback

While Travis Kelce ran riot with 4 touchdowns, it was Kansas City Chiefs starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes who was behind the plays. Similar to Kelce, Mahomes grew with the game as he finished with 29 successful passes out of 43 attempts for 292 yards, 4 passing touchdowns, 4 carries for 28 yards and a pass completion rate of 67.4%.

“Sometimes these games build the true character of the team,” Mahomes said after the game.

Roughing the passer penalty controversy

The Monday Night Football game was also marred with controversy. The Chiefs were trailing 7-17 at a point with only a minute left on the clock for the second quarter. It was at this time when Chris Jones of the hosts strip-sacked Derek Carr of the Raiders and recovered subsequently. This resulted in a roughing the passer penalty, a decision that was not taken kindly by the home fans.

Following the decision, fans at the stadium booed referee Carl Cheffers for the controversial decision.

Davante Adams with two touchdowns

While the Los Angeles Raiders failed to clinch the victory, Davante Adams was one of the positives from their game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Adams was instrumental in the Raiders taking the early lead and was one of the visitors’ best players on the field.

He registered 3 receptions out of 7 targets for 124 yards, 2 receiving touchdowns, 2 first downs and 1 fumble in the game.
