India are facing Australia in their first warm-up match of the T20 World Cup in Perth, Australia. The hosts, after winning the toss, decided to bowl. KL Rahul reached his half-ton in just 27 balls, hitting three sixes and six fours on the way.
KL Rahul finished with 57 runs off 33 balls.
Watch his six off Pat Cummins in the fifth over off the match, to reach 49 runs:
India has named all fifteen players of the squad on the team sheet, meaning everyone will get a chance to play in the warm up fixture. Australia, on the other hand opted for a playing XI, with David Warner, Matthew Wade, Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa sitting out of today’s game.
India got off to flying start, thanks to Rahul’s consistent boundaries in the opening overs. He started off by hitting a boundary in the gaps at square past cover in the first over. Then he again hit a four in the gap wide of extra-cover, off Kane Richardson. It was in the next over, that Rahul accelerated his innings, hitting a six and a four off Pat Cummins.
He followed hit up with a 20-run over, samshing all rounder Marcus Stoinis all around the stadium. The over consisted of three fours and a six, as India raced to 47/0 after just four overs of play. KL Rahul then flicked a six, again off Pat Cummins, this time over the longest boundary, to reach closer to his half ton. He finally did, taking a single off Glenn Maxwell delivery in the next over.
He, however, couldn’t stay on the crease much longer as Maxwell sent him back to the pavilion in the eighth over. He again hit the bowler at deep mid wicket, and would have been a six in any other ground, but in Perth, this was the longest boundary. It ended up as a regulation catch for Ashton Agar, who completed it.
