Suryakumar Yadav made headlines on Sunday, November 6, when he became the first Indian player to score 1,000 T20I runs in a single year with a huge six off Zimbabwe’s Tendai Chatara in the 18th over in the T20 World Cup 2022. He reached the milestone in a single calendar year, becoming the second batter after Mohammad Rizwan, who did so in 2021.

Yadav came on to the crease at a time when India were reeling at 101/4. India had lost three quick wickets for just six runs, with two of them being Virat Kohli and half centurion KL Rahul. He then stitched a 60+ run partnership with Hardik Pandya to put Zimbabwe on the backfoot. He then blitzed to a 23-ball half-century to help India post a commanding total of 186/5.

Blessing Mazarabai’s 16th over was the turning point of the match, in which Indian batters hit four boundaries to accelerate their innings. Yadav started the fireworks, hitting Muzarabani for two fours, before Pandya hit another boundary. India scored 18 runs from that over, courtesy of four leg byes in the final ball.

Yadav then hit a six and a four each in the next two overs to give India 12 runs in the 17th over and 15 runs in the 18th over. He went on to hit two more boundaries in the next over to help India reach 165/4. India went on to set a target of 187 runs to Zimbabwe later.
