Fans watching the Washington Commanders vs Philadelphia Eagles Week 10 Monday Night Football game at the Lincoln Financial Field criticized the referees for missing what they said was a clear facemask call. The Commanders ended up defeating the Eagles 32-21.
The Eagles were down by two points early in the fourth quarter when QB Jalen Hurts completed a pass to tight end Dallas Goedert for what would have been a first down. Goedert’s facemask was clearly grabbed and pulled as linebacker Jamin Davis attempted to tackle him, and the ball was released as a result of a concussive hit from defensive tackle John Ridgeway.
After recovering, Washington extended its lead to six points by adding a 55-yard field goal by Joey Slye. The Eagles had two additional chances to respond, but the best one was lost due to yet another error, this time a fumble by wide receiver Quez Watkins after a 51-yard completion.
“Guess they’re not going to call that blatant face mask,” a Twitter user wrote.
“Where’s the flag for that face mask???” another one questioned.
“So a personal foul for hitting a WR in bounds and then missing an LB ripping Dallas Goedert’s facemask off to cause a fumble with no flag? Are we being serious right now?” a third one tweeted.
After the game, match referee Alex Camp answered the question of what was seen in the play and why was the play not called.

It was the first defeat of the season for the Eagles who were 8-0 up until this point and had already defeated this week’s opponents. The game was evenly contested in the first half, with the Commanders only holding a six-point lead over their NFC East rivals.
Washington’s rushing attack allowed it to maintain possession of the ball for more than 38 minutes in the game, restricting the Eagles to just 6:11 of possession in the first half.
