Football legend Pelé‘s condition is worrying his legions of fans again as doctors in the Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo, Brazil declared that his cancer has gotten worse on Wednesday.
“Admitted since November 29 for a reassessment of chemotherapy therapy for colon tumor and treatment of a respiratory infection, Edson Arantes do Nascimento presents progression of the oncological disease and requires greater care related to renal and cardiac dysfunctions. “The patient remains hospitalized in a common room, under the necessary care of the medical team,” the report was quoted to have said by The Mirror.

Kely Nascimento, Pelé’s daughter confirmed through her Instagram post that her father would remain in the hospital for a few more days and that they would have to pas through Christmas from the hospital itself.

Pelé, who had been diagnosed with cancer in 2021, has been undertaking chemotherapy since September that year and was admitted to the hospital in November. The whole world widely prayed for the football sensation as the World Cup went on in Qatar, with world number one Brazil starting their matches with the tagline – Get well soon Pele. While his condition was deemed highly critical, later reports verified that he was doing well.

Edison Arantes de Nascimento, popularly known as Pele is one of the greatest stars in the world of football. He was a part of the Brazilian team that won World Cups in 1958, ’62 and ’70 and has been football’s all-time leading goal scorer with 1,283 goals (some sources cite his ‘official’ goal tally to be 775). The Santos player was by far the most successful player of his time, and has been the face of football for over half a century.
