UK Chancellor and Infosys founder Narayan Murthy’s son-in-law Rishi Sunak has come under fire after failing to declare wife Akshata Murthy’s assets worth several million pounds which reportedly makes her richer than Queen Elizabeth II.

According to an investigation by The Guardian, Sunak failed to declare his wife’s assets which make her richer than Queen Elizabeth II at £430 million (approximately Rs 4,200 crore). The Queen’s personal wealth, currently, is at around £350 million (approximately 3,400 crore).

As per law in the UK, all ministers are expected to publish the financial details of their close family members.

The ministerial code obliges Sunak to disclose any financial interests ‘relevant’ to his responsibilities that might stand contrastingly against his service to the public. Additionally, minister are supposed to declare assets of their close families, including spouses, to avoid any conflict.

A probe has, however, found that Sunak’s statements mention only his wife’s ownership of a small venture firm in the UK called Catamaran Ventures.

The report by Guardian also states that Akshata Murthy, apart from having stakes in six other European companies, has a $900 million-a year venture in place with Amazon India.
