For the academic year 2021-2022, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a plan for Class 10 and 12 Board examinations. The academic period has been divided into two terms, with the Board holding examinations at the end of each.

The Board also declared in a statement published on Monday that the curriculum for the year will be rationalised, similar to what was done in the previous academic year %u2014 when the syllabus was lowered by 30%. The new syllabus will be divided in half across the two terms.

In addition, schools will employ alternate academic calendars and NCERT inputs to carry out the curriculum. The board also wants to make the internal evaluation, practical work, and project work more legitimate and effective for the academic year 2021-22 in order to ensure a fair distribution of marks.

The term I examinations will take place in November and December 2021, and will consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQ) covering only the first half of the rationalised syllabus. Exams for Term II will be held in March-April 2022 at exam sites determined by the Board. While the outcomes of both term-end examinations will factor into the final aggregate score, the Board has devised a four-option basket based on the COVID scenario.

The Board attempted to continue with its previous final evaluation method for the academic year 2020-2021, but had to suspend examinations for both Class 10 and 12, and is now calculating students’ final scores based on prior exams, practical exams, and internal assessments.
