Squid Game: The Challenge‘ is the new reality show on Netflix, inspired by the dystopic South Korean series ‘Squid Game‘ that took the streaming service and the world, by storm. 

The game show – which promises not to kill participants if they lose a challenge – will have 456 contestants trying to win a $4.56 million cash prize, which is touted to be the largest in reality tv history. 

Applicants from the US, the UK, and all over the world can participate. While the original series is in Korean, the game show will accept English-speaking players. One must be at least 21 years of age and be willing to film for up to four weeks in early 2023. They must also have a valid passport and have no official affiliation to All3 Media Group and/or Netflix – either as an individual or immediate relative.

Once the basic requirements are met, those interested must upload a minute-long video saying who they are, why they want to be on the show, and what they’d do with the money if they won. A minimum of two photos of the candidates must be sent along with the application. 

“Please note: Win or lose, all players will leave unscathed. But if you win, you win big!” the Netflix disclaimer reads, assuring participants that their time in the ‘Squid Game’ reality series will be distinctively different from what the contestants in Hwang Dong-hyuk’s show faced.

The original ‘Squid Game’ saw a group of people, strapped for cash, being approached by a mysterious organization to participate in a series of children’s games for a huge cash prize. However, they soon realize the contest is deadlier than they thought. It is a tale of upward mobility and the success of ‘Squid Game’ has prompted Netflix to greenlight a second season
