At least 18 people, including the pilot and co-pilot, died on Friday when an Air India Express flight from Dubai skidded off the tabletop runway at the Kozhikode airport in Kerala while landing. The aircraft crashed into two portions after it fell into a 35 feet valley, leaving several others injured.

Several Bollywood celebrities expressed grief and offered condolences over the incident. Actors, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar, took to social media handles to express grief.

“A terrible tragedy,” Amitabh Bachchan wrote on Twitter as he prayed for the victims.

Shah Rukh Khan sent out condolences to the families of the victims. 

Akshay Kumar said that he was praying for the safety of those who were onboard. 

“Deeply shocked by the tragic crash landing”, said actor Disha Patani in a tweet.

Actor-producer Anushka Sharma took to her Instagram stories to mourn the incident. “So devastating to learn about the lives lost,” her statement read.

There were 190 people on board including 10 infants, 2 pilots and 4 cabin crew on board the aircraft, the Civil Aviation Ministry said on Friday. 

Two special relief flights have been arranged from Delhi and one from Mumbai for rendering humanitarian assistance to all the passengers and the family members, reported news agency ANI.
