The death of Big Pokey, a well-known Houston rapper was confirmed by Bun B, a fellow renowned musician. The cause of death is not yet known.

“I wasn’t ready for this,” he wrote alongside a photograph of Big Pokey. “One of the most naturally talented artists in the city. Low key, humble mountain of a man who moved with honor and respect. He was easy to love and hard to hate.

“He’d pull up, do what he had to do and head home. One of the pillars of our city. If heart of gold was a person. Iconic member of the SUC. There will never be another and will be missed dearly. We love and honor you Sensei. Rest in heaven.”

Big Pokey, whose real name is Milton Powell, passed out in the middle of a performance in Beaumont, Texas. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The rapper was seen in the footage speaking into the microphone he was holding while addressing the audience below before he suddenly lost consciousness and fell to the ground flat on his back. He was struggling to breathe and could hardly move his arms or feet. A person off-camera was heard asking, “Is he alright?” A security guard was among those who sprang to his rescue.

Unconfirmed internet rumors state that the rapper had a heart attack in the concert and that paramedics tried to revive him with CPR but were unable to do so.

Big Pokey was well-known for being one of the original members of the hip-hop group Screwed Up Click, popularly known as S.U.C.
