Charlbi Dean was a popular South African model and actor
who made her way into the Hollywood industry in 2022. Her role as Yaya in Palme d’Or-winning Triangle of Sadness, which is comedy satire, has shot the rising star to ostensible
stardom. 

The artist who also starred in the CW’s DC-comic-based
series
– The Black Lightning- tragically died of an unexpected illness. She was
only 32 years old and at the peak of her blooming career. Deadline has

Born on February 5, 1990, in Cape Town, Charlbi Dean
Kriek developed a passion for modelling at a very early age. She started her
modelling career when she was only six years old. She made her debut film in
2010 South African boarding school comedy Spud, which was written and directed
by Donovan Marsh. She played the character of Amanda, the movie also starred
John Cleese, Ben Voss and Troye Sivan.

She was recently engaged to South African model Luke
Volker. Dean was most known for playing Syonide, a recurrent
character on Black Lightning before she co-starred with Harris Dickinson and
Woody Harrelson in the acclaimed Ruben Ostlund thriller. The tragic loss of her
life ahead of the release of Triangle of Sadness has left her family and fans
devastated.

Dean plays model Yaya in the movie, one of the
super-rich opulent guests invited on a superyacht trip with a crazy skipper
(Harrelson) that goes horribly wrong and leaves the survivors trapped on a
