Josh McDaniels, the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, announced on Wednesday that quarterback Derek Carr will sit out for the final two games of the 2022 campaign. He selected Jarret Stidham to be the Raiders’ starting quarterback. 

“Derek’s played a lot of football. There’s a lot of evaluating that’s gonna take place here once the season’s over, as far as how we make the most progress, what makes the most sense for everybody and how we move forward. We knew that was going to be the case,” McDaniels said.

Derek Carr was born on March 28, 1991, in Bakersfield, California, US. He is 31. 

Derek Carr’s family

Carr is the youngest of three children of Rodger and Sheryl Carr. He and his family left Bakersfield and moved to Sugar Land, Texas after his elder brother, David Carr, was selected first overall by the then-expansion Houston Texans in the 2002 NFL Draft. His uncle, Lon Boyett, played at the tight end position for the Raiders during the 1978 season. Carr married Heather Neel on June 29, 2012. The couple has three sons and a daughter.

Career 

Derek Carr is a quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders in the NFL. His football career started at Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas. At the end of junior year, Carr verbally committed to Fresno State on May 25, 2008. After a career at Fresno State, he was drafted by the Raiders in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Carr holds the record for most passing touchdowns in Raiders franchise history.

Two years later, he replaced Aaron Rodgers in the 2016 Pro Bowl, making him the first Raiders quarterback to be named to the Pro Bowl since Rich Gannon in 2002. Post two seasons, Carr had 53 career touchdown passes, the second-most by a quarterback in his first two seasons, after Dan Marino’s 68.

In 2017, Carr signed a five-year, $125 million deal extension with $40 million fully guaranteed. He finished the 2019 season with 4,054 passing yards, 21 passing touchdowns, and eight interceptions as the Raiders finished with a 7–9 record.

Net worth

According to ghgossip.com, Carr has an estimated net worth of $80 million. During his rookie season, he signed a four-year contract for $5.37 million. In 2017, Carr and the Raider inked a five-year deal for $125 million. He was among the highest-paid athletes in the world between June 2017 and June 2018 after earning $42 million in salary and incentives. In April 2022, Carr and the Raiders came to terms on a three-year, $121 million deal agreement.
