Since the time Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut joined Twitter, she has sparked controversies every now and then, from mocking Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut to journalist Arnab Goswami’s arrest and recently calling Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh ‘Karan Johar ka Paltu’.
Take a look at some of her tweets that took the internet by storm:
Ranaut engaged in a Twitter spat with Dosanjh on Thursday after she wrongly identified an elderly Sikh woman as Bilkis Bano of the Shaheen Bagh’s anti-CAA protest. She called the singer ‘Karan Johar ka Paltu’ and accused him of indulging in ‘drama’.
On Tuesday, the 33-year-old actor shared a video of Abdul Rashid Shora, father of former JNU student union vice president Shehla Rashid Shora. Notably, Abdul wrote a letter to the Jammu and Kashmir DGP and made major allegations against his daughter. He also mentioned her daughter as a danger to his life.
“You will get money, international rewards, friends, cooperation, everything from treason, but by patriotism you will get enemies, struggle, inherit battles of ancestors’, your life should be your decision, want to live a life of wisdom or foolishness?” she tweeted in Hindi.
From speaking on mental health issues over the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput to going after a woman who admitted to having suicidal thoughts, Ranaut did everything in a matter of months.
Ranaut, on November 4, picked a bone through a video in which she lambasted Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government for arresting Republic TV’s Goswami, hailing him as a free-speech martyr.
“Today you went to Arnab Goswami’s house, you assaulted him, you pulled his hair. I want to ask Maharashtra government, how many houses will you break into, how many voices will you stifle, how many throats will you throttle,” Ranaut said in a video she posted on her Twitter account.
The ‘Queen’ actor also called herself “Ek thi Sherni” after Poet-lyricist Javed Akhtar filed a defamation suit against her.
Mid-October, she compared OTT platforms to porn streaming sites. “We must preserve cinema as a community viewing theatre experience, its more difficult to enthrall large section of audience than sexualise content for personal viewing, digitisation of art faces this major crisis, all streaming platforms are nothing but a porn hub. SHAME @ErosNow,” she tweeted.
The actor allegedly called farmers of India “terrorists” and was booked by Karnataka police.
“Bullywood the gutter of drugs, exploitation, nepotism and jihad it’s lid is off instead of cleaning this gutter #BollywoodStrikesBack well file a case on me also, till the time I am alive I will continue to expose you all #BollywoodStrikesBack (sic),” the actress tweeted after four-film bodies and 34 production houses filed a plea against news channels and journalists for making “irresponsible, derogatory and defamatory remarks” against Bollywood.
Ranaut, along with her sister Rangoli Chandel, has been facing multiple charges for her tweets and has been summoned by Mumbai police in the past. She has also slammed politicians including Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackerey, Sonia Gandhi and Aaditya Thackerey, and celebrities, including Swara Bhaskar, Taapsee Pannu and Jaya Bachchan.
