KBC Offline Quiz (November 24, 2021): What sport did the Iroquois Indians invent?

Tennis

Football

Lacrosse

Badminton

Answer: Lacrosse

Lacrosse originated as a tribal sport played by eastern Woodlands Native Americans and some Plains Indian tribes in what exists as the United States and Canada presently.  European colonists to North America greatly altered the game to create its current collegiate and professional form. Hundreds of native men were engaged in a stick-and-ball game. The game started with the ball being thrown into the air and both teams racing to catch it. These games tended to involve a large group of players swarming the ball and slowly moving across the field due to the large number of players involved. Years later, it is still a popular sport.
