Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, Robert De Niro‘s grandson, reportedly overdosed on drugs and died, according to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in New York. The New York City Medical Examiner reported that Leandro De Niro ingested a “toxic” combination of illegal substances.

The 19-year-old’s autopsy findings, which were published in the New York Post on Tuesday, showed that at the time of Leandro’s death, the young man’s body contained fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-aminoclonazepam, ketamine, and cocaine.

The medical examiners ruled the death an ‘accident’.

Leandro De Niro-Rodriguez was found dead on July 2. He was 19 years old at the time of his death. Robert De Niro adopted Leandro’s mother, Drena De Niro, 51, when he married her mother in 1976.

According to law enforcement sources, Leandro was discovered dead in his flat, seated on a chair, at the beginning of last month. A friend eventually found him after not hearing from him for a few days.

Days after Leandro’s death, Drena De Niro wrote on Instagram, “Someone sold him fentanyl-laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him. So for all these people still f—ing around selling and buying this s—, my son is gone forever.”

Sofia H. Marks, 20, was detained in mid-July on suspicion of selling the pills to Leandro. Her trial is expected to begin later this month. In texts sent in the days preceding his murder, Leandro and Sophia discussed buying fake oxycodone and Xanax, according to a criminal complaint.

His famous grandfather, 79-year-old actor Robert De Niro, released a statement responding to the news of his sudden death. “I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo. We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo,” he told Page Six at the time.
