‘Wonder Man’ is the latest Marvel superhero getting the screen treatment, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Destin Daniel Cretton, ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ filmmaker, has been tapped for the project along with Andrew Guest, of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘ fame. Guest serves as the head writer of the live-action series. Cretton executive produces and will also direct an episode or more.

The series is still in developmental stages but if things move according to schedule, ‘Wonder Man’ could start filming by 2023.

Who is Wonder Man?

Wonder Man is one of the oldest Marvel characters, first introduced in the ninth issue of the ‘Avengers‘ back in 1964. Initially, he was a villain and appeared sporadically during the Early Marvel ages, but was reconceptualized as a hero and fellow Avenger, becoming more of a mainstay in the late 1970s.

However, the character started getting more fleshed out in the 1980s. Simon Williams, or Wonder Man, became the founding member of the West Coast Avengers, based out of Los Angeles, and enjoyed popularity due to his day job as a stuntman and actor.

The character has enjoyed strong ties with both Vision and Wanda, who are now popular within the Marvel Cinematic Universe after film appearances and the Disney series. In the comics, Wonder Man is akin to Vision’s brother in their bond, and even developed feelings for Wanda after the android’s dismantling.

What are the plans for Wonder Man on screen?

While little details have been revealed about how Marvel wishes to treat the screen presentation of the character, there’s a chance the narrative could take it further into exploring Wanda and Vision’s arc. Apart from the ‘WandaVision‘ show, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ also dealt with the consequences of the surviving Maximoff’s actions. There’s also a spinoff in the works, starring the villain Agatha Harkness, played by Kathryn Hahn.
