Miami Film Festival GEMS has announced the lineup for its ninth annual event this year, 2022. Miami Film Festival is an annual film festival in Miami, Florida, that showcases independent American and international films.

Here’s all you need to know about the film festival this year: 

History:

The Film Society of Miami hosted the inaugural Miami Film Festival in February 1984. It was established by Nat Chediak and Steven Bowles. Florida International University took over the management of the festival in 1999 after the City of Miami declared bankruptcy. After Florida International University suffered a $20 million loss in state financing and an $800,000 deficit in late 2003, Miami-Dade College assumed control.

Date:

The festival is set to begin on November 3 and will run through till November 10 at MDC’S Tower Theater, Miami.

Opening and closing movies:

The Knives Out sequel, Glass Onion: The knives out mystery set to open the festival on November 3.

The sequel to Knives Out follows Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) to Greece to solve another murder mystery. Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Baustista join Craig in the cast. The Miami Film Festival will present the inaugural Ensemble Award to the cast of “Glass Onion.”

The Fabelmans, directed by Steven Spielberg, will close out the festival on November 10, with star Paul Dano virtually receiving the Precious Gem Award.

Individual honorees:

Ral Castillo, who plays Drill Sergeant Rosales in The Inspection, is one of the personal honorees. He will receive the Art of Light Award and attend a screening of the film.

Notable screenings:

Other notable screenings include White Noise, Alice, Darling, All That Breathes, Broker, Living, Look at Me and Orlando, Of Medicine and Miracles, One Fine Morning, R.M.N. and The Son, as well as centrepiece screenings to highlight drama films Women Talking and The Whale.

This year’s festival will also include Special Presentations of Alcarràs, Close, Corsage, Decision to Leave, and Holy Spider, all of which are official submissions to the 95th Academy Awards in the International Feature Film category.
