Rio is played by 25-year-old Spanish actor Miguel
Herran. In Money Heist, while every character has been through
an emotional and mental ride, it’s fair to say that no one has faced
worse than the team’s very own tech maestro. It would have been nearly
impossible for the gang to pull off the heist at the Royal Mint without the
techie’s help. He is a well-liked character in the show and does not have any
internal rivalries.
Every member of the team was ready to risk their lives in
order to extract Rio out of the hell hole he had been kept in.
His love story was
adored by the fans as the young lad falls in love with an older
woman, Tokyo. They had to keep their relationship a secret in the first season
which caused fans to remain intrigued by the dynamics of their relationship.
Stranded on an
island by his girlfriend, Rio gets caught by Interpol as he repeatedly tries to contact Tokyo by calling her. He was kept in inhuman conditions by
the government of Spain, tortured and made to feel like a dead man. He was made
to dig his own grave, tied for hours, not given any food or water. He survived all of this.
His experience with the CNI made him strong mentally. He not only helped his team expose the Spanish authorities but also walked into yet another heist. It’s heartwarming to see his relationship
with Monica grow. He suffers from PTSD and feels better after
conversing with Monica, which goes on to show how important it is to have
someone you can share your thoughts with while suffering from a mental illness.
What does fate hold for Rio? Now, with Tokyo dead, will he survive the heist and find happiness
elsewhere? The fans are hoping for a happy ending for this guy who has endured
so much.
