Eminem and Snoop Dogg are collaborating once again after their single, From the D 2 The LBC, dropped on June 24, 2022. This time the two hip-hop icons are gearing up to set the stage on fire at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) with a first-of-its-kind performance, which will be inspired by the world of the Otherside metaverse. MTV has also introduced a new award category at the 2022 VMAs called Best Metaverse Performance.

The duo’s performance will have a backdrop themed on the Otherside metaverse world. This metaverse is a collaboration between Yuga Labs’ Bored Apes Yacht Club and the non-fungible token (NFT) investment giant, Animoca Brands. Snoop Dogg, who is an NFT collector himself, has hyped up the performance on social media:

The Otherside metaverse is currently in its beta stage. It is an interoperable metaverse where Otherdeed NFTs can be used to purchase plots of land within the virtual world. The owners of Otherdeed are being referred to as Voyagers.

Alongside the two legends, Nicki Minaj, BLACKPINK, Anitta, Lizzo, and Johnny Depp, dressed as Moon Person (the VMA astronaut statue) will also perform at the event this year. Minaj is one of the co-hosts alongside LL Cool J and Jack Harlow.

It has been 12 years and 17 years respectively since Eminem and Snoop Dogg have graced the VMAs’ stage. They were earlier seen this year at the Super Bowl Halftime Show, where they performed alongside Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, and Mary J. Blige.

Notably, before their performance at the Super Bowl, the two legends were involved in an on-and-off feud, with both taking subtle shots at each other, which began with Snoop stating on a podcast interview that Eminem doesn’t rank among the top 10 rappers of all time. Eminem responded to Snoop in a verse in his song Zeus from the album Music To Be Murdered By: Side B.

This back-and-forth went on for some time before Snoop extended the olive branch and the Real Slim Shady hitmaker responded in his song Killer by saying that it was all “cool” between them.
