Hulu’s upcoming show ‘Only Murders in the Building’ is scheduled to premiere next month with an A-list cast. The show stars Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short in the lead roles. The show is co-created and written by John Hoffman and Steve Martin. The show is co-produced by Dan Fogelman, Selena Gomez and Martin Short.

Gomez plays the role of Mabel, whereas Martin plays Charles and Short will be playing Oliver. These three characters live in the same Upper West Side apartment building. The trio is obsessed with crime stories. When a stranger gets murdered in their building they come together to investigate the murder case by themselves. They also start to document their findings in a crime podcast.

The show also stars Nathan Lane who will play the role of a building resident who owns a popular New York City grocery chain. Jane Lynch, Amy Ryan will also appear in the show, but the details of their role have been kept under wraps.

Only murders in the Building is Gomez’s first recurring scripted TV role after Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place. Martin spoke about her performance as an actor in an interview with Vogue. He said, “You get a list of names, you know, you’re thinking, ‘Sure, they’d be good, they’d be good, What about Selena Gomez?’ and it’s just—yes, of course.”

He told the magazine, “There was no question except ‘Can we get her? We knew she would enhance the show in so many ways, the number one being talent. Her performance is rich and adult. She’s learned to underplay when necessary.”

“Marty and I are pretty manic and she’s this solid, solid rock foundation. She’s nicely, intensely low-key,” added Matin.

Gomez opened up about the show and her costars to Variety. She said, “I think [the series is] going to bring a lot of joy to people. I was on a Zoom with Steve and Marty, and I’m like, ‘I’m not going to get any work done because they are just so quick in their back-and-forth.”

The show will premiere on August 31, 2021, on Hulu.
