President Ram Nath Kovind also wished the citizens of India, while requesting them to follow covid guidelines.

He tweeted early morning on Wednesday, “”Eid Mubarak to all fellow citizens. Muslims across the world are celebrating Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakr-Eid, at a time when we’re all struggling with the deadly coronavirus pandemic. While the celebrations this year could not be done with the usual pomp and fervour, the spirit remains the same.

The Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid in Delhi told ANI. “We need to follow Covid-19 guidelines for the safety of ourselves and for our families in view of third wave. We had decided to allow limited people to offer namaz at Jama Masjid. 15-20 people offered prayers.”

Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah. It is celebrated in honour of Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God’s command. The festival also marks the end of Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
