Raju Srivastava, a veteran Indian standup comedian, died at age 58 on Wednesday. He had been rushed to the hospital in August this year after a cardiac arrest while working out at the gym. 

His brother Dipoo Srivastava, who is also a comedian, told news agency PTI on Wednesday, “I got a call from the family about half-an-hour ago saying he is no more. It is really unfortunate news.”

Raju Srivastava had been part of the entertainment industry since the 1980s and was launched into the standup comedy circuit in 2005. He became popular after participating in the Hindi television show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.

According to the entertainment website Scoopwhoop, these are some of the top jokes that Raju Srivastava cracked as a comedian:

-Amitabh Bachchan in KBC: “Aap jahan kaam karte hai, aapke haath ke neeche 500 log hai. Kya karte hai aap?”

The contestant: “Ji mai kabar khodta hu.”

-Veeru bola “Basanti, inn kutton ke saamne mat naachna.” Toh hum bole aise kaise nahi naachna? Hum ticket ke poore paise diye hai.

-Tum jo safed saari pe laal bindi lagati ho, kasam se ekdam ambulance nazar aati ho.

-Priest to an alcoholic: “My son, aap jis raaste pe chal rahe hai, yeh raasta aapko narak mai leke jayega.”

The alcoholic: “Kya baat kar rahe ho, mujhe toh Ghatkopar utarna tha.”

-Gabbar to murgi: “Maine kitni baar bola ki sirf ek anda maat diya kar. Tujhe mujhse daar nahi lagta kya?”

Murgi: “Lagta hai, tabhi toh ek deti hu. Varna mai toh murga hu.”

Raju Srivastava, counted as among the most high-profile and experienced comics in the country, is survived by his wife and two children.

The artiste was seen in various Hindi films. These include Maine Pyar Kiya, Baazigar, Aamdani Athaani Kharcha Rupaiya and Mai Prem Ki Diwani Hu. He was also the chairperson of the Film Development Council Uttar Pradesh.
