Shavez Hart, an Olympic sprinter from the Bahamas, was fatally shot outside a nightclub after he allegedly attempted to stop a fight. According to the Royal Bahamas Police, the fatal shooting happened near Mount Hope in North Abaco at around two in the morning.

In the parking lot, there was apparently a fight between several individuals. One of the participants, who had reportedly briefly left the area before returning with a gun in hand, shot Hart in the chest. The Olympian was taken to the Marsh Harbour Clinic, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Speaking to Nassau Guardian, Mario Bowleg, Minister of Youth Sports, and Culture said,” It is with great sadness that I join in the sporting fraternity in expressing heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Shavez Hart, Olympian…. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture also extends heartfelt condolences to the executive branch of the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA), all other members of the organization, and persons within the sporting community. As minister, I pray for healing and comfort for the family of the bereaved during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”    

Shavez Hart’s age

Shavez Hart was born on September 6, 1972 in the Abaco Islands, Bahamas. He died on September 3rd, 2022, just three days before his birthday. He was only 29 years old.

Shavez Hart’s family

The athlete is survived by his mother, wife and son. He was a family oriented man, and was known to keep his private life hidden from the public. That’s why hsi wife and son’s name is not known. The sprinter’s mother told the Nassau Guardian her son was caught in the middle of the fight.

“He was such a good son – very quiet and always helpful. He did a lot of work in the community and was always trying to give back. I will certainly miss him,” she said.

At the time he died, Shavez Hart had an estimated net worth of $1.5 million to $ 2 million, as per mynewsgh.com. He was among Bahamas’ well known athletes.
