American pop star Olivia Rodrigo stopped her live show in Washington DC midway and slammed the possible overturning of Roe v Wade by the United States Supreme Court. The 19-year-old is currently on tour promoting her debut album ‘Sour’.

Rodrigo made strong comments about abortion rights to tens of thousands of people attending the show on Thursday night. The crowd cheered on as the ‘Good 4 U’ singer spoke her mind about the recent Supreme Court draft opinion leak on Roe v Wade.

Because we are in [Washington] DC, I could not pass up the opportunity to say how heartbroken I am over the Supreme Court’s potential decision”, Rodrigo said mid-show.

“Our bodies should never be in the hands of politicians. I hope we can raise our voices to protect our right to have a safe abortion, which is a right that so many people before us have worked so hard to get”, the American pop singer added.

A flurry of Hollywood stars reacted to the Supreme Court leak and said that Roe v Wade should not be overturned. Roe v Wade is a landmark ruling from the top court that is the bedrock of abortion rights in the United States.

One such celebrity is Phoebe Bridgers, who has often collaborated with Olivia Rodrigo. Bridgers revealed that she had an abortion in October last year.

“I went to [Planned Parenthood] where they gave me the abortion pill. It was easy. Everyone deserves that kind of access,” the 27-year-old singer wrote in a social media post.

This was not the first time Olivia Rodrigo was in Washington DC to address a social issue. Last year, Rodrigo visited the White House and joined President Joe Biden’s social media campaign to promote COVID-19 vaccines in the United States.
