Taylor Hale made history as she became the first Black woman to win CBS reality competition Big Brother. The winner of the show’s Season 24 was announced Sunday.

Hale was taken to Final 2 by Leftovers alliance member Monte Taylor, evicting the other finalist Matthew Turner. In a head-to-head competition, a vote of 8-1 in her favor made her win a whopping prize of $750,000.

“It’s like winning Ms. Congeniality all over again,” Taylor told Julie at the end of the finale. “But it’s a cash prize this time.”

She was also the most voted for America’s Favorite Houseguest (AFP) and won a cash prize of $50,000. She has joined the list that includes such past fan-faves as Janelle Pierzina, Jeff Schroeder, James Huling, Tyler Crispen, Da’Vonne Rogers and Tiffany Mitchell.

Earlier during the two-hour episode, Matthew “Turner” Turner won Part 1 of the final Head of Household competition, and then Monte Taylor won Part 2.

Taylor, during questioning, confirmed that she adapted her game to improve her position.

“Being on the block can be something that is seen as a very weak game,” Taylor, who was on the block for her sixth time, said. “But when it comes to me, I am resilient and nothing will stop me from being here.”

Hale’s win follows Xavier Prather’s Season 23 victory as the first Black person to take the grand prize. CBS chief George Cheeks had put new marching orders in place to ensure more inclusive casting on the network’s reality shows.
