The Last of Us is based on a video game of the same name.
The video-game-based show recently released its extensive casting announcements
that confirm several major characters will appear in the series.

Creators have
confirmed that season 1 of the show will explore the story of the first game
and will also stay close to the original narrative with some deviations.

The show is set 20 years after the United States is overrun
by a cordyceps brain infection that takes over hosts’ bodies and turns them
into creatures analogous to zombies. The adaptation will finally be making it
to screens in 2022.

Below is a list of major characters that will be seen in
the show:

Joel Miller:

Joel is a smuggler who has survived the initial outbreak of
the infection and the collapse of the government. Joel will be portrayed by Pedro
Pascal, who is cynical about escorting Ellie. He is the main character and also one of the first characters to be confirmed.

Sarah Miller:

Sarah is Joel’s 12-year-old daughter who is killed during
the opening sequence as they try to flee the infected. Unfornutaley Sarah dies
during the encounter and Joel survives which fuels his ongoing distrust of
organizations and his hesitancy to partner with Ellie. The character of Sarah
will be played by Nico Parker.

Ellie:

Game of Thrones actor Bella Ramsey will portray Ellie in the upcoming show. Ellie becomes a major character in the latter part of the
original video game and also is one of two primary protagonists in The Last of
Us: Part II. Her character is snarky and self-driven.

Marlene:

Marlene will be played by the same actor who voiced her in
The Last of Us: Merle Dandridge. She is the leader of the Fireflies, which is a
resistance group that seeks to overthrow the military oppression caused by
FEDRA’s hold on quarantine zones.

Marlene is tasked to keep Ellie safe by Anna
who is Allie’s mother and that is the reason why she asks Joel to take Ellie
across the country.

Tess:

She is Joel’s smuggling partner and is more ruthless than
Joel himself. She is also a hardened survivor in a post-pandemic world. The
character of Tess is played by Mindhunter’s Anna Torv.
