Social media giant and video-sharing app TikTok permitted its users to post videos with a duration of up to three minutes. The maximum duration has been bumped up from the prior limit of just one minute.

The social media app has more than 100 million users in the United States alone with the total number of people who are signed up being more than one billion worldwide.

Drew Kirchhoff, the product manager for TikTok said, “With longer videos, creators will have the canvas to create new or expanded types of content on TikTok, with the flexibility of a bit more space”, reported AFP.

The option to post videos longer than the previous time limit of one minute will roll out to all TikTok users in the coming weeks, according to Kirchhoff.

He added that the new feature should be available for the users in the coming weeks.

TikTok continues to be one of the most favoured applications of the Gen-Z but faces tough competition as multiple such platforms like Instagram, YouTube and Snapchat have introduced features similar to those offered by TikTok.

Former US President Donald Trump sought to break away China-owned applications from users in the United States citing concerns relating to the country’s national security. However, his successor Joe Biden revoked all executive actions related to the ban after taking office.
