The latest teaser for the third episode of ‘Koffee with Karan‘ season 7, featuring Akshay Kumar and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, is a proof that the Chris Rock-Will Smith slap controversy is still fresh in people’s memories. During the rapid fire round, host Karan Johar asks Akshay Kumar what he would do if Chris Rock made a joke about his wife Twinkle Khanna. For those who have forgotten what happened on March 28, 2022, here’s a recap: During the 94th Academy Awards, comedian Chris Rock appeared on the stage to present an award. He cracked a joke about actor Will Smith’s wife’s shaved head. This clearly did not go down with the ‘The Pursuit Of Happyness’, who went on stage and punched Rock in the face. After returning to his seat, Smith cursed Rock as he asked him to keep his wife’s name out of his “f—— mouth.”

Soon afterwards, Smith was named the best actor for his role in ‘King Richard.’ During his acceptance speech, he publicly apologized to Chris Rock and stated that his behaviour was “unacceptable”.

In a note on Instagram the following day, he wrote, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally (sic).”

He added, “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness (sic).”

The actor was, however, banned from the Oscars for ten years.
