Chris Pine will star in Olivia Wilde’s movie Don’t Worry Darling as Frank. The movie premiered at the Venice International Film Festival on September 5. Pine’s character Frank is the founder of a utopian 1950s community known as Victory Project. 

 Don’t Worry Darling’s website defines his character Frank as an “equal parts corporate visionary and motivational coach”. As per Insider, Chris Pine based his character on Jordan Peterson, a conventional Canadian psychologist. The director of the movie, Olivia Wilde in an interview mentioned, “We based that character on this insane man, Jordan Peterson, who is this pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community”.

Who is Chris Pine?

Christopher Whitelaw Pine is an American actor. He was born on August 26, 1980, in Los Angeles, California. His father, Robert Pine is an actor who co-starred on CHiPS as Sergeant Getraer. His mother Gwynne Gilford is a former actress who became a psychotherapist. Pine has an elder sister, Katherine, who has also acted. 

Pine attended the Oakwood School. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in English. He was an exchange student at the University of Leeds in England for one year. After graduation, he attended the Williamstown Theatre Festival and studied at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. 

Pine’s first acting role was in a 2003 episode of ER. In 2004, he appeared in a short film Why Germany? The 42-year-old made his feature film debut as Lord Devereaux opposite Anne Hathway in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement in 2004. In 2005, he made an appearance in an episode of the series Six Feet Under. 

In 2006, he appeared in a romantic comedy movie Just My Luck opposite Lindsay Lohan. Later that year, Pine appeared in the comedy Bling Dating, and the action film Smokin’ Aces. He starred opposite Scott Wolf in the Los Angeles production of Neil LaBute’s play Fat Pig in 2007.

Pine portrayed the role of James T. Kirk in the 2009 movie Star Trek. He appeared in the Los Angeles production of The Lieutenant of Inishmore during the summer of 2010. He won the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle’s lead appearance award. In 2010 he starred in the action film Unstoppable, directed by Tony Scott. 

Pine filmed the romantic comedy This Means War, with Reese Whitherspoon and Tom Hardy which was released in February 2012. He voiced the character of Jack Frost in Rise of Guardians. In June 2012 he appeared in a family drama People Like Us. 

Pine reprised the role of Captain Kirk in the sequel to 2009’s Star Trek, titled Star Trek Into Darkness. The movie was released in the United States on May 15, 2013. In 2014, he portrayed the role of Jack Ryan in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. In May 2015, Pine confirmed his role as one of the Howard brothers in Hell or High Water. Pine lent his voice to an animate sitcom, SuperMansion in 2015. 

He reprised the role of Captain Kirk in Star Trek Beyond. The movie was released in 2016. In July 2016, he was conferred with a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for his work on the series SuperMansion. 

In 2015 he was cast as Steve Trevor, opposite Gal Gadot in the superhero film Wonder Woman. Pine played the role of Dr. Alexander Muury in the fantasy film A Wrinkle in Time in 2018. He voiced a version of Peter Parker/Spiderman in the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. 

In 2020, Pine starred as Westley in Home Movie: The Princess Bride for Quibi. He appeared in the Wonder Woman sequel, titled Wonder Woman 1984. 

Pine will star in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, a film based on the role-playing game of the same name. In February 2022, it was announced that Pine will make his directorial debut with Poolman and will also play the lead.

Politically, Pine calls himself a “left-leaning liberal”. He stated that both Democrats and Republicans tend to be interchangeable when it comes to certain actions. 

The actor was in a relationship with British actress Annabelle Wallis, of Peaky Blinders fame, from April 2018 to March 2022.
