Janhvi Kapoor is the daughter of Boney Kapoor and the late Sridevi. The 25-year-old made her acting debut in 2018 with the romantic drama “Dhadak,” co-starring Ishaan Khatter.

Janhvi’s debut film – a Hindi-language remake of the 2016 Marathi film Sairat – proved to be a commercial success with a worldwide collection of ₹1.1 billion. She also won the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut. In the same year, the cosmetics brand Nykaa selected Janhvi Kapoor to be their brand ambassador.

Janhvi Kapoor studied at Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai. She took an acting course at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in California before making her appearance on the big screen.

Janhvi Kapoor’s father is a big name in the Indian film industry, he is the son of the late filmmaker Surinder Kapoor, and the founder of the Anil Kapoor Films Company. Her mother, actress Sridevi, worked in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films. Janhvi lost her mother when she was 21 years old. Sridevi was found dead in her guest room at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in 2018. Her cause of death was said to be an accidental drowning.

Janhvi Kapoor is the niece of film actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor. She has one younger sister, Khushi, and two half siblings, actor Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor from her father’s first marriage.

After “Dhadak,” her next screen appearance came in 2020 when she starred in Zoya Akhtar’s segment in the Netflix horror anthology film “Ghost Stories.” She then took on the role of aviator Gunjan Saxena in the biopic “Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl.” The film was scheduled for a theatrical release but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it streamed on Netflix.

Janhvi Kapoor underwent physical training and learnt the body language of an air force officer for her role in the film. She received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Gunjan Saxena.

In 2021, she played a dual role opposite Rajkummar Rao in the comedy horror film “Roohi.”

She is all set to star in “Good Luck Jerry,” a Hindi adaptation of the 2018 Tamil film Kolamavu Kokila, produced by Aanand L. Rai. She is also working on a film titled “Mili” with Sunny Kaushal, a remake of Helen. Kapoor has also committed to a sports film “Mr and Mrs Mahi” with Rajkummar Rao, and has an action film “Bawaal” with Varun Dhawan.

Most recently, Janhvi Kapoor appeared on Koffee with Karan Season 7’s second episode, sharing the couch with Sara Ali Khan. In the episode, which aired on Disney Hotstar on July 14, Janhvi, revealed she is yet to come to terms with the loss of her mother.

“I think it would have been an impossibility to have to go through that without Anshula didi and Arjun bhaiya. Nothing can make up for the loss that I have endured I think. But it’s a new dynamic. I think I am a different person,” she said.
