Actor Song Joong Ki is in the news after his agency Via Soompi confirmed that he is currently in a relationship. While the identity of his partner has not been revealed officially, speculations are pointing toward British actor Katy Louise Saunders, who is known for starring in Los Borgia (2006), Third Person (2013) and The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003).

Who is Song Joong-Ki?

Song Joong-Ki is a South Korean actor known for his roles in Descendents of the Sun, Vincenzo, and Reborn Rich. He was born on September 19, 1985 in the rural outskirts of Daejeon, Korea. As a young kid, he was a competitive skater, having competed in short-track speed skating. He also represented Daejeon at a national level. His skating career was cut short due to an injury he sustained in High School. 

He excelled in his studies and went to study at Sungkyunkwan University. While in college, he was approached by a talent agent. But he did not take up acting immediately since he was ambivalent about his career path, and his father initially opposed him taking up acting. He continued to study part-time and entered the entertainment industry full-time in the third year of his college, graduating in Business management.

He first appeared on television on KBS’ Quiz Korea as a substitute for a senior who was sick. This raised him to popularity and he eventually featured as a cover model in the university magazine College. He made his debut in the film industry with A Frozen Flower in 2008.

He was voted Gallup Korea’s Actor of the Year in 2017. He was featured in the Forbes Korea Power Celebrity list in 2013 ranking seventh, and subsequently ranking second in 2017, and eighth in 2018.

Song Joong-Ki was married to Song Hye Kyo, his co-star in K drama Descendants of the Sun. The two ultimately divorced in 2019, after three years of marriage.
