Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds star in Spirited, a musical comedy based on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

Apple TV+ released a video preview for Spirited, in which Reynolds plays Clint Briggs, a Scrooge-like character visited on Christmas Eve by the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future played by Will Ferrell.

Who is Will Ferrell?

Born on July 16, 1967, in Irvine, California, John William Ferrell is an American actor, producer and comedian. 

Ferrel was born to Betty Kay, a teacher, and Roy Lee Ferrell Jr., a Righteous Brothers saxophonist and keyboardist. His parents were both Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina natives. Ferrell’s ancestors are of English, German, and Irish descent.

Ferrell had pyloric stenosis as an infant and underwent a pyloromyotomy to correct the condition. Ferrell has a younger brother, Patrick. His parents divorced when he was eight years old.

He rose to prominence in the mid-1990s as a cast member on the NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, where he appeared from 1995 to 2002. He has since appeared in films such as Elf (2003), Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004), Kicking & Screaming (2005), Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006), Semi-Pro (2008), and Land of the Lost (2010). (2009). 

In 2007, he and his writing partner Adam McKay launched the comedy website Funny or Die. Other notable film roles include Curious George (2006), Megamind (2010), and The Lego Movie film franchise, as well as The Other Guys (2010), The Campaign (2012), Get Hard (2015), Holmes & Watson (2018), and the animated films Curious George (2006), Megamind (2010), and The Lego Movie film franchise (2014-2019).

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, a group of top Hollywood comic performers known as the “Frat Pack”—Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Steve Carell, Vince Vaughn, Paul Rudd, and the Wilson brothers Owen and Luke—emerged. Ferrell is regarded as a part of this group. He was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards—three for producing Vice, two for performing in The Producers and Stranger than Fiction—and an Emmy Award for his work on Saturday Night Live (2018). In addition, he won the 2015 British GQ Men of the Year award for best comedian. On March 24, 2015, Ferrell was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
