Rapper AKA, real named Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, was shot dead outside a restaurant in the coastal city of Durban. The rapper was killed along with his close friend, the chef, and entrepreneur Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane. Forbes died just two years after his fiancée Anele ‘Nelli’ Tembe’s death in 2021. Tembe fell from the 10th floor of the Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town. The aspiring chef was thought to be accompanying her boyfriend to a gig in the city.

Who was Anele ‘Nelli’ Tembe?
Anele ‘Nelli’ Tembe was a South African model, entrepreneur, and social media personality. She was born on October 11, 1999, to an affluent family in Durban. Her father Moses Tembe is a renowned business tycoon and the chairperson of Phumelela Gaming and Leisure Limited. Her mother was the late Lulu Msumi Tembe who passed on in 2004 following an illness.

Nelli had two siblings, an older brother Vukile and a sister named Nosifo Temba. After their mother’s death, the three young children were raised by their father until he remarried Princess Ntandoyesizwe. She is the daughter of the eighth King of the Zulu nation.
Moses Tembe has two children from his second marriage, Mbali and Zomatanga, who were Nelli’s half-siblings.

Nelli graduated in 2019 from the Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine. After graduating, she had a great passion for cooking and opened her kitchen at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom, in Durban.
In an interview with Jackie Cameron School of Food & Wine, Nelli revealed that she wanted to become the first South African woman to open a Michelin Star restaurant.
She was engaged to rapper Kiernan Forbes. The two started dating in 2020. On February 21, 2021, Forbes announced that he had gotten engaged to Anele Tembe.
The news of Anele ‘Nelli’ Tembe’s sudden and tragic death quickly spread throughout South Africa in April 2021. There were some speculations that Msumi Tembe committed suicide too which were circulated after Nelli’s death. Her elder brother Vukile has since denied the rumors.

In an interview with Thando Thabethe, AKA said that he had been in a heated debate with Nelli on the day that at some point in the argument, she threatened to kill herself. He left the room to let her cool off but when he returned, it was too late. Police cleared AKA’s name and ruled Anele Tembe’s death as a possible suicide.

Anele Tembe was laid to rest on April 16, 2021, at the Lala Kahle Cemetery, following a funeral ceremony held at Durban International Convention Centre.
