Celebrated Pakistani comedian Umer Sharif died in Germany on Saturday after suffering from heart complications. He was 66-years-old. Mohammad Umer, professionally known as Umer Sharif, was a Pakistani comedian who won the millions of hearts across borders through his comedy. Besides being a great comedian, he was also a producer, director, and a television personality.

He was born on 19 April, 1960 in Liaquatabad, Pakistan. He started his career at a very early age of 14 as a stage performer from Karachi.

He started using his stage name as Umer Zarif but later changed it to Umer Sharif. ‘ Bakra Qistoon pe’ and ‘Buddha ghar pe hai’ were some of his extremely popular stage plays in 1989.

Sharif became very popular because of his videotapes. He started to record his stage plays and rented his videotapes in the same way as movies. ‘Yes Sir Eid’ and ‘No Sir Eid’ were some of his first stage plays which came out as videos.

His television career started in 2009, when he started hosting his late night talk show by the name of ‘The Shareef Show’, on Geo TV. This show was all about him interviewing famous musicians, politicians, actors and entertainers. He also appeared alongside Navjot Singh Sidhu and Shekhar Suman, as a guest judge on the show ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’.

Sharif formed a trust in 2006 named the ‘Umer Sharif Welfare Trust’. Its goal was to create a ‘state of the art health centre that provides services free of cost’.

Sharif won numerous awards in his lifetime. He received national awards for Best Director and Best Actor. He became the only personality to win 4 Nigar awards in a single year. He received 10 Nigar awards in total. He also received Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

His recent demise left everyone heartbroken. He was suffering from cancer and was undergoing treatment in the United States. He passed away in a hospital in Nuremberg, Germany on October 2, 2021. With this, the era of the ‘King Of Comedy’, has come to an end.
