The character of Sidney Prescott in Scream has become synonymous with Neve Campbell. Ghostface has been torturing Sidney and her pals in the film Scream, with Sidney being his primary target. It finds out that the two murderers had a personal grudge against her, and every subsequent murderer had a link to Sidney in some way.

For the first time in Scream 5, Samantha Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), the estranged daughter of Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), was the major target rather than Sidney. Nevertheless, Sidney nonetheless found herself taking part in the action as she aids Samantha in taking down Ghostface, who was also attempting to make a legacy sequel.

Even if the Scream series was moving away from Sidney, it was nevertheless unexpected to learn that he wouldn’t be back for Scream 6.

Neve Campbell went into more detail about why she won’t be appearing in Scream 6 in an interview with Entertainment Tonight earlier this year. The performer claimed that she didn’t think the deal made to bring her back reflected the value she contributed to the brand. She claims that even if she adores this franchise, the offer would have been greater if she had been a man because she didn’t want to be taken advantage of.

“I love these movies, I love being a part of them. I’m so grateful for them. It’s 25 years of my life… [a] character that I care deeply about and I know fans care deeply about. People come to me and say, ‘Sidney inspired me. Sidney saved my life. I was having trouble in school’ or ‘I was having trouble at home and it helped me overcome.’ You just don’t realize the effect that a character can have on people and Sidney has had a huge impact on people. So it was hard for me to make that decision not to do [Scream 6] because I knew it wasn’t just about me,” Campbell said.

“But at the same time, as a woman, I think it’s really important that we try to be on par financially with men and I fought for a long time to have that be a part of my life and to get to that place and I really just didn’t feel that what was offered to me really equated to what I bring to these films — the value that I bring to these films and that Sidney brings to these films. The idea of being on set and feeling taken for granted or taken advantage of just seemed impossible for me to endure, to be honest,” the actor added.

The infamous Sidney Prescott is not present, but Scream 6 is still going on. Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Courteney Cox, and Hayden Panetierre are among the returning cast members. Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori are among the newcomers. Neve Campbell hoped her leaving won’t cause too much of a distraction for the Scream 6 crew and sent her best wishes.
