Just like last season, the 18th edition of fans favourite Grey’s Anatomy is going to be full of surprise character returns from the previous seasons of the show. As Grey’s Anatomy season 18 started streaming on ABC on Thursday (EST), fans would be excited to know that Dr Nick Marsh will make a re-entry in the show. Yes, you read it right.

Scott Speedman, who played the role of a transplant surgeon in season 14 of the medical drama is the person from Meredith Grey’s past who will be back, as the promo teaser suggested, reported Deadline.

In an interview with the news outlet Deadline, Speedman revealed what lead to the return of his character in the show and how it played out.

On being asked how he was first cast on the show, Speedman said that he knows Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) personally and she contacted her one day with the script to do an episode. About the script, he d said, ” I like the scrip and through it would be a great experience to work on this with Ellen, hence I said yes and that’s how it all fell into place.

Grey’s Anatomy screenwriter Kristen Vernoff, who was also present for the interview, said that she got the idea to re-introduce Speedman while she was envisioning the script. 

“Actually toward the end of last season, I started saying to Ellen, I’m having this thought, and she was like, ‘Again?’, because I had made that phone call a few times. But this time, we got lucky, he said yes, and we planned the season accordingly. Yeah,” Deadline quoted Vernoff as saying.

However, Nick Marsh is not the only character to be re-introduced in the season. Kate Burton as Meredith’s dead mother Ellis is also one of the Grey’s Anatomy aluminise whose return this season has already been confirmed.

Other to -re-appear in season 18 of the show are Abigail Spencer as Owen’s sister Megan and Kate Walsh as Addison.
