We finally have our finest look yet at Timothée Chalamet’s interpretation of the iconic Roald Dahl figure in the first trailer for Wonka.
At a trailer preview event, writer/director Paul King referred to the new film as a “companion piece” to the iconic 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, which starred Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka.

King claimed that Wonka will contain song and dance performances, including original songs by Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy and takes on old tunes like ‘Pure Imagination’, even though we don’t hear any songs in the video.
While the songs are absent from the teaser, it does at least have a humorous introduction to Hugh Grant’s Oompa Loompa from the actual film.
Fan reactions have started coming in and social media has been abuzz ever since the trailer dropped.
Chalamet had previously been seen in character with a photo from the set, leading several fans to thirst over his appearance – much to his amusement.
“You know what’s really funny about that is it’s so misleading. This movie is so sincere, it’s so joyous,” he said of the public reaction to the photo, before outlining his motivations for taking on the role.

“I hate to say it, but the dream as an artist is to throw whatever the f**k you want at the wall, you know? And I guess what I’m realising is that one’s personal life, one’s adult life, can be quite boring and the artist’s life can still be extraordinary.”
Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, Paterson Joseph, Mathew Baynton, and Matt Lucas are all featured in the cast of Willy Wonka.
