Popular British chef Gordon James Ramsay, who is usually surrounded by controversies owing to his tough temperament and harsh comments, is making headlines again and this time too, for not a good reason. Ramsay is being widely criticised on social media for attempting to elevate and mislabelling a dish.

It all began last week when the celebrity chef shared the video of an episode on his Youtube channel. The video under question was a part of his YouTube series ‘Scrambled: On the Road.’ In the video, Ramsay tried to elevate a dish named ‘Puerto Rican pegao’ He referred the dish as a ‘beautiful’ Puerto Rican rice dish.

The social media users alleged that final outcome of the dish that Ramsey prepared was ‘Arroz mamposteao’ rather than ‘pegao’.

Actually, Puerto Rican food, pegao refers to the crispy, thin layer of rice that sticks to the bottom of the pot when making traditional island rice dishes like Arroz con gandules.

The video of the episode is here.

“How do you elevate that? How do you lift that up to the next level?” he asked in the episode before proceeding to create a dish consisting of onions, garlic, seasoned chicken, spicy sausage, a fried egg, and rice. “… The beauty of this dish is that it’s a staple – nothing fancy but the flavor profile is unique,” Gordan said in the video.

Ever since the release of the video, Ramsay if facing backlash from the users and cooking experts. While some are calling him out for labelling the dish incorrectly, others are giving him a hard time insulting a beautiful dish by trying to elevate it.

However, amid all the negative comments and flak, some users have also taken note of the fact that this video of Ramsey brought attention to the small island.
